Hello! :D

I rejected this from the Princesses folder at #DisneyObsessors because Mulan is not a princess. However, this is an absolutely spectacular piece of art, so I've resubmitted it for you into the Featured folder. :aww:

But Mulan is indeed part of the Disney Princesses franchise, so tecnically she IS a Disney princess, though she's not a real princess in her movie. :)

She is a princess in her movie. If you remember correctly, she became apart of the royal court of China at the end. Just because she's not a princess in the western sense, doesn't mean you should refuse her all together.

I've never seen Mulan included in the Disney Princesses when it came to merchandise or anything like that, personally... I've been rejecting any submissions of Mulan to the 'Princesses' folder, instead accepting her to 'Heroines'. I'd rather keep her as a heroine, because she really wasn't a princess in her movie. If Disney wants to include her now in the Disney Princesses franchise, that's their choice, but I haven't witnessed it myself.

I hope you understand. :aww:

"Disney Princess is a media franchise owned by The Walt Disney Company. Created by Disney Consumer Products chairman Andy Mooney in the late 1990s, the franchise features a line-up of fictional female heroines who have appeared in various Disney animated feature films. The eleven current members of the franchise are Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel and Merida."

This is Wikipedia, but you can easily see it on the Disney website! :D

Yes, I've had a discussion about this with another person as well, about how Mulan is included in the Disney Princess franchise. I still stand, however, by the fact that Mulan is not actually a princess by definition. :aww:

You can't just not claim her a Disney Princess. If you look at the OFFICIAL Disney Princess lineup, she is one. Next, you'll be accepting like Anastasia or something and she isn't even Disney. Definition or not, she IS a Disney Princess and therefore be added into the Disney Princess groups. Not adding her simply doesn't make sense. She is also in the movie an Honorable Princess as she was recognized by the Emperor himself. Please change your mind as this is just bullcrap and not fair. You can't just pick and choose who's a Disney Princess or not.

Why would I accept someone who isn't even Disney-made as a Disney Princess? That makes no sense at all.
Given that there is an appropriate folder titled "Heroines", I don't see why I have any need at all to place Mulan in the "Princesses" folder. She may be a part of the franchise and she has been recognised by the Emperor, but why can I not say that the folder for Princesses is reserved for those characters in Disney movies who are actually Princesses? Do you have a problem with placing Mulan in the gallery as a Heroine?
I don't choose who is or isn't a Princess. That would be silly. But given that I have no dedicated staff members for this group and therefore I run it by myself when I find time to do so, I think I am well within my rights to say that the Princesses gallery folder is for Disney characters who are actually royalty or married into royalty. There are other folders for other characters.
Now, if I have overlooked a character type and I need to add another gallery folder, feel free to bring it up as a suggestion. I am open to ideas. However, saying that I'm "not being fair" by saying I would rather Mulan be placed in the Heroines folder rather than the Princesses folder is not unfair, nor is it bullcrap. It is well within my rights as Founder and sole operator of this group, and it's really no less convenient to click "Heroines" to submit your Mulan artwork than it would be to click "Princesses".

Thank you for your input. :aww:

She is a princess in her movie. If you remember correctly, she became apart of the royal court of China at the end. I think she because the emperor's counselor. Just because she's not a princess in the western sense (married to a princess, son of king and queen, etc), doesn't mean you should refuse her all together. Seems to me you don't want her to be one.

Being a member of the royal court doesn't mean she's become a royal individual. The Emperor's advisor who is fired at the end of the movie is not considered royal or a prince before being fired, but rather he is more like a Congressman, if we are to compare to Western ideas. It's not that I don't want Mulan to be a princess, it's more that I see her as a heroine and not as a princess. The man she marries is an army general. I don't refuse Mulan--she's one of my favourite Disney characters--I just think that she isn't a princess and I don't like that she is part of the Disney Princesses franchise while Eilonwy (sp?) and Giselle are not. It seems to me like every princess Disney has made is in their franchise of princesses except for those two from The Dark Cauldron and Enchanted, and I don't think it's fair for them to be excluded while a character who was not royal and did not become part of the actual royal family is included.

Yeah... They should really take her out and put Giselle in her place, or even Elonwy or however you spell it--the princess from the Black Cauldron.

But that image is good to see.

Unlike Mulan, The Black Cauldron was flop movie, so not many young girls would recognise or identify with her, like they would with the brave, tomboyish (And Asian) Mulan.

Annnnddd... "Disney decided to not market Giselle as an official Disney Princess because it would have to pay royalties to actress Amy Adams for using her likeness."

Eh.... I liked the Black Cauldron, but you're right, she wouldn't be easily recognized.

As for the bit about Giselle... Wow. I didn't know Disney was such a cheap asshat. :|
